Summer is hardly a vacation for College of Charleston students and faculty. Many take advantage of the time to do research and experience opportunities only available at the College or in historic Charleston, S.C. This summer hundreds of students completed internships for credit – they worked in New York City at Forbes Magazine, Showtime Network and Merill Lynch, for Hilton in Beijing, Army Wives and Blackbaud in Charleston and Grumman Northrop in Washington D.C. Just to name a few. More than 30 students received SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research with Faculty) grants to conduct research from Iran to Charleston.

Faculty members traveled as far as Alaska and Washington to participate in research projects in their areas of expertise. An archaeological field school was conducted at the College’s research plantation along the Stono River near Charleston, and dozens of projects were underway at Grice Marine Laboratory.
