Former Colorado Lieutenant Governor Joe Rogers will be the featured speaker at the College of Charleston’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration on January 13, 2011.The program, entitled the Dream Alive, will be held beginning at 6 p.m. in the Admissions Auditorium at Craig Hall. The College’s Office of Institutional Diversity is the primary sponsor of the program.

The Dream Alive program is an acclaimed, positive and uplifting dedication to the memory and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. The program has been presented at colleges, corporations and conferences throughout America.  This live commentary will take audience members back in time to the renowned 1963 March on Washington where King delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech—to his final words delivered in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee.  The program has been described as “uncanny, electrifying, spellbinding, awesome, touching like King was in the room.”

A reception will take place prior to this program.

The Office of Institutional Diversity will also host the MLK Candlelight Unity and Peace Rally at 4:30 p.m. on January 18, 2011. The rally will be held in the Stern Center Gardens. The College of Charleston Community will reflect on Dr. King’s legacy through poetry/prose readings, songs during this event
