A College of Charleston professor was part of a group of international scientists that received a snapshot showing the birth of a planet system around a young star.
Joseph Carson, who teaches astronomy at the College of Charleston, participated in years of research using a special telescope in Mauna Kea, Hawaii.
The star system Carson and his fellow researchers captured is located in the Constellation Auriga, 460 light years from Earth. The star is about 1 million years old — young for a star.
