On Friday April 8th more than thirty students will present their research to peers, colleagues, students, and community members as part of the inaugural William V. Moore Student Research Conference. Seven student panels will be moderated by political science professors. The panels will be held in the Stern Student Center between 10:00 and 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Panels are open to anyone with an interest and will explore topics related to the media and political participation, South Carolina politics, and contemporary policy challenges here and abroad. “Professor Moore was a devoted teacher, mentor, and scholar in the Department of Political Science for 37 years and we think this is an excellent way to honor Bill,” says Professor Philip Jos, chair of the political science department. “He was an inspirational teacher and he was especially committed to nurturing those who wanted to make a positive difference in South Carolina.”

The conference includes participants from a half-dozen different majors as well as several high school seniors. Funding for the conference comes from the Department of Political Science, donors to the William V. Moore Memorial Fund, and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dean Cynthia J. Lowenthal says “we are proud to support the conference, this is what we mean by a College wide commitment to developing a “student focused community.”

Dr. Luther F. Carter, President of Francis Marion University and longtime friend and colleague of Dr. Moore’s will speak at the conference luncheon. Make a donations in support of the conference or to support the William V. Moore Scholarship.
