The Student Government Association (SGA) of the College of Charleston has collected unused dining dollars (from student’s College dining plans) to provide $500 worth of food for the Carolina Homeless Veterans organization on James Island. SGA members will deliver the food on Friday, April 29 at 10:15 a.m.

At the end of the academic year, SGA and Aramark (the College’s dining partner) work together so students can donate their left over dining dollars into a fund set up by Dining Services. This allows seniors and transferring students to use these funds to benefit others in need, rather than simply losing the money when they leave the College.

Junior political science major Isaiah Nelson started the Dining for the Homeless fundraiser last year.

“This program is allowing us to give back to the Charleston community that gives so much to us during our time here at the College,” says Nelson, 2010-11 SGA president.  “As college students, we have a unique opportunity to help people in need, and make our community stronger in the process. “

Ross Kressel, 2011-12 SGA president, adds, “Our partnership with Aramark in the Dining for the Homeless program allows us to work with Carolina Homeless Veterans and thank those who have fought for our country for their service, especially during a time of great need.”
