Members of the College of Charleston’s Greek community have rallied around the Sigma Chi fraternity to raise more than $100,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) since Derby Days began at the College. They will be recognized and a lab will be dedicated in their name at the MUSC Darby Children’s Research Institute (171 Ashley Avenue) on September 13, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. for these contributions.

Derby Days is the largest philanthropy tradition for Sigma Chi fraternity nationwide. At the College of Charleston, Derby Days is held for one week in the spring as a competition between campus sororities to raise money. The amount of money they raise annually has increased significantly in recent years, with $35,000 raised in 2011 and $25,000 raised in 2010.

“The ladies of College of Charleston Greek Life are amazing,” says Philip Rosenman, a Sigma Chi brother. “They have found ways to increase donations each year, including their most recent strategy of seeking corporate sponsorships. Derby Days is a blast and it is rewarding to bring people across campus together to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network.”

Children’s Miracle Network is one of two suggested beneficiaries for chapter community services projects for Sigma Chis nationwide.
