The College of Charleston has been ranked #4 among regional public universities in the South in the 2012 edition of Best Colleges by U.S.News & World Report.

U.S. News also ranked the College of Charleston #5 among regional public universities in the South for “A Strong Commitment to Teaching.” In a peer assessment survey, these universities were identified as “schools where the faculty has an unusually strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.”

The College of Charleston was also listed as an “A-Plus School for B Students” among Southern regional universities.

The exclusive rankings, which include nearly 1,400 schools nationwide, are available today at www.usnews.com/colleges, and will also be published in the September issue of U.S. News & World Report, on newsstands starting September 20, 2011.

The U.S. News rankings are based on several key measures of quality including peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate performance, and alumni giving.

In August, The Princeton Review named the College of Charleston one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education. This is the eighth year the College has been honored. Only 15% of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges are profiled in the book.

The Review praised the College for its “huge university opportunities with a small college, personalized atmosphere.”
