The College of Charleston will host the 2nd Annual Diversity Week running from October 24-28, 2011.
This year’s Opening Ceremony will feature a performance by Mystic Vibrations, a reggae band whose music speaks of love, unity, and peace amongst mankind. This event will be held in Stern Center Gardens at 4:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The purpose of Diversity Week at the College of Charleston is four-fold: (a) to provide the College community with an opportunity to explore the different dimensions of human diversity, while celebrating its richness and beauty; (b) to recognize the centrality of diversity to achieving inclusive institutional excellence; (c) to promote the immeasurable benefits of domestic and global diversity; and (d) to foster “a culture of collective responsibility” for diversity on campus. This year’s theme is: “Exploring and Celebrating Our Multicultural Heritage”.
Diversity Week will feature rich and exciting educational, cultural, social, and outreach diversity events, including lectures, panel discussions, film series, multicultural/international food, multicultural fashion show, cultural music and dance, cool JAZZ, and so much more! The special guests for this exciting WEEK include Hawk Hurst, Native American Story Teller; Taikoza, Japanese Drummers; and a jazz duo featuring David Patterson and Ann Caldwell for the Closing Ceremony; this is a ticketed event. Be sure to visit the Office of Institutional Diversity’s website for a full listing of the events for the WEEK.
The 2nd Annual Diversity Week Program is made possible in part, by a generous grant from the C.A. Dufford, Jr. Estate for the promotion of Diversity at the College of Charleston.
