College of Charleston senior Marty Gantt was tabbed as a Louisville Slugger Third Team All-American, Collegiate Baseball newspaper announced Thursday afternoon.
Gantt joins an elite list of Cougar player who have earned All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball. Since 2002, College of Charleston has had a player on one of the three All-American teams in all but two seasons, good for 14 All-America designations in all.
A native of North Augusta, S.C., Gantt won the Southern Conference Player of the Year award from the coaches and media while earning a spot on the All-Conference first team. Gantt is currently third in the Southern Conference with a batting average of .375. His league-best 64 runs rank 12th in the nation, while Gantt is also one of the league leaders in walks (43) and on-base percentage (.485), while ranking second in doubles (19) and third in stolen bases (25) and slugging percentage (.612).
Gantt was also selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious Dick Howser Award, given to the top amateur player in the country.
The senior was one of three SoCon players on the three team award list, including Samford’s Brandon Miller (2nd team) and Josh Martin (3rd team). Missouri State’s Nick Petree was named the Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Year.
