College of Charleston senior and London Olympian Juan Maegli qualified for nationals after winning the SAISA Men’s Singlehanded Championship regatta sailed in Charleston Harbor on Crab Bank over the weekend.

Maegli, who was competing in his first collegiate event since 2010, placed first in eight of the 12 races to capture his third career SAISA title. He previously won the ICSA/Laser Performance Men’s Singlehanded Championship in 2009 and the qualifier in 2008 and 2009.

Maegli will be joined by South Florida’s Christopher Stocke and Florida’s William Heausler at this year’s ICSA Men’s Singlehanded Championship hosted by USC on Nov. 2-4 in Long Beach, Calif.

Racing was postponed until the sea breeze started to show signs of life on Saturday. Sailors had a 1 p.m. harbor start and the first race of the day began at 1:45 p.m. All races were sailed in a building 8- 12 knot southerly. All courses were W4’s with offsets and gate.
