On October 25, 2012, the College of Charleston will host Chiavari Day, a cultural celebration of the Northern Italian Riviera that includes vintage cars, a Grammy award winner, and delicious food. The event is open to the public and free of charge. A donation of $10 is recommended.
Starting at 4:30 p.m., vintage Ferrari, Maserati and Fiat cars will be on display in front of Physicians Auditorium.
At 5:00 p.m., the Italian Studies program will host three Ligurian guests who will each showcase their unique expertise. Chef Luca Mangiante will prepare a delicious sampling of regional dishes such as the famous Genovese pesto with gnocchi and farinata. Artisan Carlo Repetto will demonstrate his talent with papercraft. In a student workshop, Professor Silvana Badano will speak about the rich architecture and intriguing history of Genova and Chiavari.
At 5:30 p.m. College of Charleston graduate Jessica Bruce will recount her study abroad experience in Chiavari and show photos from her trip. Following, there will be a musical performance by percussionist and four-time Grammy award winner Glen Velez and world renowned clarinetist Nina Stern, who performed in the Orchestra della Scala of Milano.
