College of Charleston strings professor Lee-Chin Siow will be a participant in VIP conversations hosted by StoryCorps, a national nonprofit organization well-known among NPR listeners for their broadcasts on Friday mornings during Morning Edition. Siow is praised by the American Record Guide as “a distinguished cultural asset of international stature”, and The Strad as a “trailblazing role model for string players.” She has performed to critical acclaim in over 20 countries on five continents, from Carnegie Hall to Osaka Symphony Hall.

StoryCorps’ MobileBooth (an Airstream trailer outfitted with a recording studio) will be in Concord Park (Ansonborough Field) in Charleston, S.C. from October 25, 2012 until November 19, 2012. Anyone interested in recording a conversation can be make reservations by calling StoryCorps’ 24-hour toll-free reservation line at 1-800-850-4406 or visiting storycorps.org. To help offset its operating costs, StoryCorps suggests a donation of at least $25 for each MobileBooth interview. If participants cannot afford to meet the suggested donation, they may participate at no cost to ensure that StoryCorps remains a free public service.

StoryCorps’ MobileBooth interviews are conducted between two people who know and care about each other, with a trained StoryCorps facilitator guiding the participants through the interview process. At the end of each 40-minute recording session, participants receive a complimentary CD copy of their interview. With participant permission, a second copy is archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress for future generations to hear. Parts of select conversations are also aired during NPR’s Friday Morning Edition broadcasts.

StoryCorps’ visit is being hosted by ETV Radio.
