Professionals are taking advantage of the College of Charleston’s Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management Program through an online certificate course. Recently Boeing offered it to employees, and several other logistics professionals in the southeast are enrolled.
“The School of Business recognizes the need for executive education and professional development programs for people in the greater Charleston region, across South Carolina and beyond,” says Kent Gourdin, director of the program. “Our professional programs are an option for any company that would like to offer additional education to its employees. Since we now give this training online, we can offer it to anyone, anywhere in the world.”

The professional certificate program has been around for 20 years with the online version starting two years ago, as the result of a partnership between the College and Michelin. The course work is designed for business, education or government entities operating or seeking to operate in South Carolina or use the Port of Charleston for importing and exporting goods. Instructors for the seminars are experts in their particular topic area. Their career experience in both the private and public sectors enables them to effectively handle the specific, practical information needed for training courses.
The four general areas covered in the training are: Import/Export Documentation; Port of Charleston and U.S. Customs; Regulations and Pricing; and Operations. The School of Business also offers a Certified Global Business Professional program.
