A graduate says the College of Charleston Graduate Certificate in Urban and Regional Planning gave him the knowledge and tools needed to pass the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) exam on the first try.
“The exam was a comprehensive review of everything that was covered in my classes from urban planning to planning law, history and theory, and GIS,” says Joe Henderson, Town of Sullivan’s Island zoning administrator and town planner. “Any practitioner in the field, or student of urban planning, would be well advised to consider the certificate to ensure success on the AICP exam.”
The American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification exam is given twice a year and increasingly sets the professional standard within planning. Those who receive and maintain certification usually have higher salaries and better job and networking prospects than those who don’t.
“Many of the concepts that students learn about are directly applicable to preparation for the exam,” says Program Director Kevin Keenan, an urban studies professor. “The certificate offers an overview of the theories and practices used to identify, analyze and solve urban and regional planning problems.”
