The College of Charleston School of Business will add three global business leaders from the Charleston area to the Wall of Honor on Saturday, September 21, 2013. This year’s honorees include William A. Finn, chair of Asten Johnson, Howard F. Rudd, Jr., dean emeritus and professor emeritus, School of Business, and Anita G. Zucker, chair and CEO, The InterTech Group.
Each honoree was nominated and selected by the School of Business’ Board of Governors for their “transformational and lasting impact on the School of Business.”
Finn was the chair of the School’s original Board of Advisors (now Board of Governors) who actively worked to bridge the business community with the classroom to encourage experiential learning for students. Today, he serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors and is the industry advisor to the Schottland Scholars Program.
Rudd was the founding dean of the School of Business and Economics in 1986 and led it through its first AACSB International accreditation. He helped to establish several majors, interdisciplinary minors, and the Paul T. Nelson Intermodal Transportation Program (now the undergraduate logistics and supply chain management program). As professor emeritus of management, Rudd was a strong supporter of student achievement and continually put the students’ interests at the top of his priority list. Two prestigious awards are named after him including the Howard F. Rudd, Jr. Businessperson of the Year Award for alumni and the Howard F. Rudd, Jr. Distinguished Faculty Award for Service Leadership for business faculty.
Zucker served as the Board chairperson during a period of transition in the School’s history between 2004 – 2009. Today, Zucker is often found in the classrooms of undergraduate and MBA students where she also volunteers as a mentor. As a leading philanthropist for the School of Business, she recently endowed the Howard F. Rudd, Jr., Distinguished Faculty Leadership Award, along with fellow Board member, Justin McLain ’98, CEO of Duart Mull. Her example of philanthropy has led to increased giving by Board members, alumni, and friends to significantly advance the people and programs within the business school.
In 2011, the first honorees added to the Wall of Honor were Tommy and Victoria Baker, Guy and Betty Beatty, and George and Dorie Spaulding.
P. George Benson, President of the College of Charleston, and Alan T. Shao, Dean of the School of Business, as well as other invited speakers will present the awards to the honorees.
