The College of Charleston International Cross-Curricular Accelerator for Technology (I-CAT) has received a $250,000 grant from the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
The grant will go toward establishing a technological accelerator that provides students a unique opportunity to develop their business, computing and entrepreneurial skills, while also helping to provide a service to the established and emerging technology businesses in the state and Lowcountry “Silicon Harbor” community.
“I-CAT will connect technology business professionals to academic professionals and students in a way that will both address the workforce needs of the business community while enhancing educational opportunities for students in computer science, in entrepreneurship and in the liberal arts” says Chris Starr, chair of computer science.
Under this accelerator program, students working in small, cross-curricular teams, will design, develop and launch software startups. The program encourages technological innovation and execution in the heart of a liberal arts and sciences university.
Some of the business ideas would emerge from students and faculty at the College of Charleston while other ideas will be ideas from business in the program.
