The College of Charleston Alumni Association capped off a busy weekend of meetings and events on May 3 and 4, 2014, with its signature spring reception A Charleston Affair.
The annual event is typically held the weekend before commencement to welcome alumni back to campus and to celebrate the entry of the graduating class into the alumni ranks. A tradition dating back to 1900, the event has grown to encompass an entire block in the heart of campus. Due to overwhelming demand, a second night was added for 2014.
In all, more than 4,600 alumni, graduating seniors, guests and sponsors turned out for two evenings of food, beverages, reunion and music by the East Coast Party Band, said Jack Huguley ‘72, director of alumni relations.
“Adding a Sunday edition in 2014 allows the tradition to continue for a growing number of alumni wishing to participate in this annual pilgrimage,” Huguley said.

Earlier in the weekend, on May 3, 2014, the Alumni Association held its sixth annual Alumni Chapter Leaders Conference and its 127th annual business meeting.
The conference was attended by representatives of 13 of the College’s 35 alumni chapters, including chapters from New York City and San Diego.
At the business meeting, the Alumni Association elected new officers. After a very productive two-year term, outgoing President Chuck Baker ’80 turned the gavel over to President Dan Ravenel ’72.
