The College of Charleston baseball team knocked off the Florida Gators with a a 3-2 win on May 31, 2014, to advance in the winner’s bracket of the NCAA Gainesville Regional.
The Gators were the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and ranked eighth in the Coaches Poll heading into Friday night. It marked the fourth time in six NCAA trips that the College (42-17) has won the first game of a regional.

Next up for the Cougars is Long Beach State, a 6-1 winner over North Carolina, on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 7 p.m.

The red-hot Cougars have won four games in a row and 11 of the last 13 after winning the Colonial Athletic Association championship.
The game, which began after a three-hour rain delay, is one of the biggest in program history. Head coach Monte Lee improved to 4-4 in NCAA Tournament games and now has 13 wins against ranked opponents.
The was one of three No. 4 seeds to defeat top-seeded hosts on the first day of the NCAA Tournament. There were 10 upsets by seeding on the first day of play.
