Charleston Supported Artists (CSA), LLC, will include three College of Charleston alumni in the roster of artists included in its fall 2014 art share. Alumni Mariah Channing ’14, Jennifer Phillips ‘92 and Kristi Ryba ’88 make up three of the six artists contributing original pieces to CSA art share purchasers this season. Each alumnus received bachelor’s of arts degrees in studio art from the College’s School of the Arts.

Channing is a Charleston-born artist who works primarily in photography and focuses on alternative photo processing methods. Phillips is a Jamaican-born artist who also lived in Switzerland and Paris, where she studied at the Sorbonne, before moving to Charleston and pursuing her undergraduate degree. Ryba attended both the College of Charleston and Vermont College, and she has been featured in exhibitions across the U.S.
Current CSA shareholders and individuals interested in purchasing shares will be able to do so at the fall pick-up event at Mixson Bath and Racquet Club in North Charleston on August 28 at 5:30 p.m. All artists will attend the event to mingle with patrons and discuss the 32 pieces of original artwork they created for shareholders.
Charleston Supported Art, launched in November 2013, offers shares of art for purchase based on the community-supported agriculture model. Among the organization’s founders are six School of the Arts graduates Kristy Bishop, Ann Simmons, AnneTrabue Watson Nelson, Camela Guevara, Stacy Huggins and Erin Glaze Nathanson, and Halsey Institute of Contemporary Arts employee, Karen Ann Myers. In addition, the College’s Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art is a supporter of CSA.
