The College of Charleston coed sailing team won the SAISA Sloop Qualifier to move on to the ICSA Match Racing Nationals hosted by Seawannakha on Nov. 14-16 in New York, N.Y.
The Cougars successfully defended their title winning the conference championship regatta behind all first-and second-place finishes in the seven-race series from junior Ryan Davidson (Newport Beach, Calif.), junior Jake Reynolds (San Diego, Calif.), freshman Christophe Killian and senior All-American Ali Blumenthal (Bellport, N.Y.) in St. Petersburg, Fla. CofC beat out host USF and Eckerd College for a spot at nationals.
College of Charleston also closed out the weekend with a 10th-place finish at the two-division, 18-team Hoyt Trophy regatta hosted by Brown University in Providence, R.I. The Cougars competed against 17 other top collegiate teams at the 10-race series.
Senior skipper Nick Johnstone (Newport, R.I.) and junior crew Seppie McAdams (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) placed seventh in A-Division, while junior skipper Dodge Rees (Pensacola, Fla.) and senior crew Tierney Driscoll (Bayport, N.Y.) were 12th in B-Division.
The Cougars will compete over the Fall Break at the SAISA Fall Coed regatta hosted by Jacksonville University on Nov. 1-2 in Jacksonville, Fla., and the Kennedy Offshore Cup on Nov. 1-2 in Annapolis, Md.
