The College of Charleston School of Business’ Initiative for Public Choice and Market Process (IPCMP) will host Sarah Skwire, Fellow at Liberty Fund and author of Writing with a Thesis. Skwire’s speech, “You’re So Money: Literary and Economic Seductions,” will take place November 5, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Tate Center (5 Liberty St.) room 315. This event is free and open to the public.
Skwire will discuss Shakespeare’s poetry through the prism of modern economics, exchange, and commerce. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
“Skwire offers an intriguing perspective linking Shakespeare’s poetry and modern economics which should spark interest among a broad group of students studying economic relations, history, communication, or English,” Max Kovalov, IPCMP Program Coordinator said.
Skwire has published academic articles on topics as diverse as Shakespeare and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and her writing has appeared in such diverse journals as Literature and Medicine, the George Herbert Journal, and the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization. She is an occasional lecturer for IHS and other organizations and has published in the Freeman. Her poetry has appeared in Standpoint, the New Criterion, and the Vocabula Review. Her current project is a book-length treatment of money in early modern poetry. She graduated with honors in English from Wesleyan University, and earned a masters and doctorate in English from the University of Chicago.
The IPCMP was founded in 2008. Its mission is to advance the understanding of the economic, political and moral foundations of a free market economy. The IPCMP supports the growth and development of teaching and research at the College’s School of Business while engaging students and the Charleston business community.
