It’s been said that where there is unity, there is always victory. The College’s equestrian team certainly proved that last May when it finished second at the 2014 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championships in Harrisburg, Pa.
“Our win at nationals wasn’t just the six girls representing the team, but all 45 girls on the roster,” says head coach Bob Story. “It was a group effort that got us to nationals – every single member of our team contributed to us getting there.”
And, once there, it was two stand-out student-athletes that led the team to victory: then-sophomores Victoria Bauer (first place in the novice fences, pictured left) and Victoria Gonzalez (first place in the walk-trot, pictured right).
“Both the Victorias just went out there and did what they had to do,” says Story. “They made us all proud. There are so many things that go into winning, so many things that have to fall into place, just the right way.”
Not the least of which, of course, is the team unity that ultimately led the Cougars to victory.
