On November 1, 2014, the College of Charleston officially launched the public phase of its BOUNDLESS campaign – a boundless campaigncomprehensive campaign with the primary goal of raising more than $125 million by June 2016. The funds raised will fulfill immediate and long-term needs across campus.

Beyond fundraising, BOUNDLESS strives to engage students, alumni, faculty, staff, supporters, parents and community members in the life of the College with events on campus and across the country, to encourage philanthropy among stakeholders, and to foster a sense of community among all those connected to the College. In the spirit of these objectives, here are five things you may not have known about this exciting campaign:

1. It’s not just about money.

BOUNDLESS is about the College of Charleston. The campaign will tell stories about our amazing students, faculty and alumni. It will connect community members, share amazing faculty research findings and, yes, raise money. Along the way, it might sponsor your bike ride through Charleston or invite you to an alumni or admissions event. BOUNDLESS encourages you to engage with the College through service, advocacy or philanthropy.

 2. It’s a comprehensive campaign, not a capital campaign.

A comprehensive campaign supports the entire campus. A capital campaign involves fundraising specifically for brick-and-mortar structures, like classroom buildings, residence halls and athletics facilities. BOUNDLESS will serve many elements of campus, detailed below, with brick-and-mortar being one of our five priorities.

 3. BOUNDLESS has five strategic priorities.

These include:

  • Scholarships: This is the campaign’s foremost priority, which will ensure affordability, accessibility and inclusivity for students at the College.
  • Faculty: BOUNDLESS will support efforts to attract and retain top teacher-scholars. In addition, it will help to maintain current world-class faculty members’ national research.
  • Distinctive academic programs: BOUNDLESS will facilitate the growth of the College’s many programs that thrive from our unique history, location and faculty, including Jewish Studies, the Honors College and the School of Languages, Cultures and World Affairs.
  • Facilities: BOUNDLESS will modernize learning and research spaces to match the needs of our students and faculty.
  • Annual Giving: This priority will support areas of immediate need and annual priorities such as scholarships, faculty support, or undergraduate research projects. These types of gifts are a vital source of momentum for the College.

 4. You can choose where your money will go.IMG_2042_cmyk_lores

When you donate to BOUNDLESS, you can pick which of the five priorities you’d like to support. Learn more about how your donation will make a difference here.

5. The campaign is just beginning.

You may have seen that the College has already raised $110 million through the silent phase of BOUNDLESS; however, the campaign is not at the finish line yet. Existing donations comprise all kinds of gift-types, like those for immediate use, those for the College of Charleston endowment and those that are planned gifts (i.e., they will be made available through donors’ estates sometime in the future.)

The campaign hopes to far exceed its $125 million goal to support the many people, places and programs our community members love most about the College.
