The College of Charleston offshore sailing team won the prestigious Kennedy Cup over the course of three days of racing in Navy 44’s at the ICSA Keelboat National Championships hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
In what can only be described as an incredible performance, the Cougars placed first and third in Sunday’s races to secure the offshore national title. CofC bested nine other schools in the field including a nine-point victory over runner-up Queens University located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

This win comes in the Cougars’ second season fielding a varsity offshore sailing team, and qualifies the team to represent the U.S. in the Student Yachting World Cup to be held next October in France.

This weekend, the team will travel to three regattas at the ICSA Match Racing Nationals hosted by Seawannakha on Nov. 14-16 in New York, N.Y., the Atlantic Coast Coed hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Nov. 15-16 in New London, Conn., and the Atlantic Coast Women’s hosted by MIT on Nov. 15-16 in Boston, Mass.
