The College of Charleston is ranked number 39 in a list of the top-50 study abroad programs in the U.S., according to college review website Best College Reviews. The rankings were released in
January 2015.
The list credits the College’s programs in Argentina, Chile, Cuba, France and Spain, saying, “Students who choose to study in Chile will stay with a host family, specifically chosen by the College of Charleston, giving the students an excellent opportunity to learn about Chilean life and culture. During the semester, students will have ample time to explore Chile and South America on their own, as well as participate in one group excursion.”

Andrew Sobiesuo, Hispanic studies professor and associate provost for international education, believes that the homestay “provides an opportunity for a cultural and linguistic immersion for our students. In the family setting, students live and breathe the language and culture on a daily basis even when they are not conscious of it.”
