In its spring season opener, the College of Charleston coed sailing team turned in a third-place finish at the in-conference SAISA Open regatta.
The Cougars held the top spot after the first six races of the series on Saturday with a one-point lead over Jacksonville, who won the event with a total of 69 points on Sunday. Host Eckerd College finished runner-up with 70 points and CofC third with 75 points amongst a tough field of 17 other Southern area teams.
In A-Division, freshman skipper Jack Thompson (Newport Beach, Calif.) and freshman crew Marissa Bamonte (Tiverton, R.I.) placed third with 40 points. Meanwhile, freshman skipper Liam Harr (Annapolis, Md.) and freshman crew Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) were edged by two points on the scoresheet by Eckerd College’s Andrew Schoene and Shaughnessy Lindquist for a runner-up finish in B-Division (35 points).
CofC will continue its second half of the season at the home-hosted Charleston Coed on Feb. 21-22 at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex and the USF Women’s regatta on Feb. 21-22 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
