Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars will perform at the concert, which is co-sponsored by Cumulus Media and Fox Audio Visual. The All Stars have been unable to return home to Sierra Leone due to the Ebola outbreak there. The funds raised will support Doctors Without Borders’ efforts to treat and contain Sierra Leone’s Ebola outbreaks.
“Even though Ebola is no longer featured as heavily in the news, it continues to affect West Africa, with Sierra Leone among the hardest hit countries,” African Studies Program spokesperson Lauren Schmaltz said. “This is an opportunity for students and community members to make a difference and learn more about Sierra Leone’s culture.”
Students are encouraged to ride-share for transportation to the event, and they can contact Schmaltz for more information on wrist bands for free admission. In addition to the benefit concert, attendees will be able to explore some of the scenic plantation.
