The wait is almost over. The spring 2015 issue of College of Charleston Magazine will be landing in mailboxes this week.
Can’t wait another minute? Here’s a little taste of what’s to come:
All Over the Place
The cover story is about Lulie Martin Wallace ’09, a young artist who is making national waves with her commercial pieces (being sold in Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie and being recognized by Southern Living, Better Homes and Garden and HGTV Magazine). Her work is being used on product packaging as well as on fabrics such as blankets/duvets (where she sees her art expanding). She found her inspiration for art at the College, and studio art professor Cliff Peacock gave her the confidence to make her avocation her vocation.
See the video interview with Wallace below!
Carving a Legacy
The McNair brothers (Ian ’03 and Colin ’08) are award-winning duck decoy and wildlife wood carvers, carrying on an exceptional family tradition. Raised in Craddockville, Va. (a beautiful and remote spot along the Chesapeake Bay), Ian (a history and studio art double major) is based in Virginia, and Colin (a biology major) works out of Boston. This piece looks at the process of woodcarving and how their CofC education played into their artisan tradition.
Welcome to the Club
This photo-essay by staff photographer Leslie McKellar is a playful look at some of the unusual and wide-ranging clubs on campus. With more than 220 student clubs and organizations – and 30 new ones proposed this year – the College has something for everyone. In this piece, McKellar photographed the presidents of the following clubs: Classics Club, Film Club, Paintball Club, Culinary Club, Anime Club, Billiards Club and the Chuck De Raas Club.
A Force on the Inside
For the past four seasons, senior men’s basketball co-captain Adjehi Baru (an international business major) has been a mainstay for the Cougars. In probably the toughest season in the program’s history, Baru reminds us what it means to never give up, to never stop fighting. And, in his relentless play and his unwavering will to compete, the star recruit from the Ivory Coast will be forever remembered – and celebrated – for his example in the maroon and white.
Between these articles, the alumni profiles, the student success stories and the vivid images of our beautiful campus, this issue of College of Charleston Magazine is sure to entertain and enlighten you. We promise: It’s worth the wait.
