College of Charleston men’s basketball sophomore guard Canyon Barry was one of four student-athletes who were among the best in their respective sports, both athletically and academically, to be honored as recipients of the Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Award for the winter sports season.
A physics major and mathematics and computer science minor at College of Charleston, Barry was voted to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Second Team and was the lone player on the three-team national squad to have a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. He is a member of the Honors College and has been selected to the CAA Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team the past two seasons.
On the court, Barry led the Cougars and ranked among the Top 15 players in the league in scoring (12.5 ppg), steals (1.2 spg) and three-pointers made (64) this season. He was also second on the team in rebounding (5.1 rpg) and dished out 53 assists. Barry was the only Cougar to play and start in all 33 games of the season, while also scoring in double figures on 21 occasions including five games with 20-or-more points.
