The College of Charleston Sailing Program is offering several non-credit, adult community sailing classes this summer. Held at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex at the Patriots Point Marina in Mt. Pleasant, each session lasts nearly three weeks and includes two 2-hour classroom periods and 15 hours of on-the-water instruction.
Students will learn the basics of sailing on the College’s J/22 keelboats, which have been modified for instructional purposes and therefore allow for a comfortable, safe and exciting sailing experience. All group classes are taught by a head instructor and an assistant in an organized drill method, and – for safety reasons – are capped at 18 students per session, three students per boat.
A $485 registration fee (includes textbook) is required to reserve a space. Times and days vary per session, with the next one beginning Wednesday, May 6, 2015. A complete schedule is available on the registration form.
The College’s sailing program also offers youth sailing camps for children ages 8–14. Each five-day session runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $395 per camper. The camp schedule and registration information is available here.
