College of Charleston Director of Athletics Joe Hull has announced a fundraising campaign to raise private funds for a new, state-of-the-art athletics facility to be located at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

The planned facility –one of the priorities in the College’s overall, comprehensive-fundraising campaign, BOUNDLESS – will support the College of Charleston baseball, softball, men’s soccerwomen’s soccer, men’s tenniswomen’s tennis and sailing programs.

The building project – an estimated 20,000 square feet and three stories tall – will be funded by private, corporate and campus support. The new athletics facility will include a weight room and sports medicine facility, locker rooms, coaches’ offices, academic spaces and a hospitality/viewing deck overlooking the baseball and soccer fields.

“We are excited about this new opportunity,” says Hull. “When you look around the state of South Carolina and across the country, there is a facilities arms race in collegiate athletics. To remain competitive, which we are committed to doing here at The College, you have to continually invest in facilities like this.”

While the facility is primarily designed for Patriots Point-based teams, it will benefit all of the department’s athletics programs, freeing up critical space in its current downtown facilities. The recaptured space downtown will afford CofC the ability to enhance academic support, sports performance and sports medicine services for all of its 19-varsity sports teams.

“Today is an exciting day for our department and our student-athletes,” says T.J. Isaacs, associate athletics director. “We have a very large challenge in front of us as it pertains to raising the funds for this project. We are going to need the financial assistance from our alumni, parents and the community to make this new athletics facility a reality. The bottom line is – the time is now for us as a Cougar Community to step forward and support this long-overdue project.”

When the project is completed, the new athletics facility at Patriots Point will become one of the premier athletics facilities in the Colonial Athletic Association.
