Stefano Peschiera, a member of the College of Charleston sailing team, has qualified to represent his home country of Peru in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Peschiera, a sophomore who won the 2014 SAISA Men’s Singlehanded Championship, will participate in the Laser division in a 14-foot, one-person racing boat.
Peschiera won’t be the only sailor with ties to the College of Charleston competing in the Olympics. Former College of Charleston sailor Juan Maegli ’12 has also qualified to represent his home country of Guatemala for the 2016 Summer Games. This will be Maegli’s third trip to the Olympics.
Overall, this will be the seventh consecutive time that a College of Charleston sailing team member has qualified to participate in the Summer Olympics.
