Brett Gardner ’05 is officially an All-Star.
The former College of Charleston baseball player was selected to the Major League Baseball All-Star game today as a replacement for Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals. Gordon was injured in a game against Tampa Bay this week.
Gardner, a left fielder for the New York Yankees, was previously in the American League Final All-Star Vote contest taking place this week. But with his selection today, Gardner will no longer need to secure enough fan votes to make it to the All-star game in Cincinnati on July 14, 2015. He’s in!
Gardner was a walk-on player at the College of Charleston and played three years for the Cougars. In 2014, Gardner was honored as the College’s Young Alumnus of the Year at the annual Alumni Awards Gala.
Now in his eighth season with the Yankees, Gardner will make his first appearance as an all-star.
