Rucker first gained fame as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the Grammy Award-winning rock band Hootie & the Blowfish. The band released five studio albums with Rucker at the helm and charted six top 40 hits.

In 2008, Rucker signed to Capitol Records Nashville as a country music artist, releasing the album Learn to Live that same year. Its first single, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” reached No.1 on the charts. It was followed by two more No. 1 singles, “It Won’t Be Like This for Long” and “Alright.”

In 2009, he won the New Artist Award from the Country Music Association.

A second Capitol album, Charleston, SC 1966, was released on October 12, 2010. The album includes the No. 1 singles, “Come Back Song” and “This.”

Rucker’s third solo album, True Believers, followed in early 2013 and generated a massive hit with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Wagon Wheel,” a No. 1 country single that crossed over to No. 15 on the pop charts on its way to triple-platinum certification.

His fourth country studio album, Southern Style, was released on March 31, 2015.
