Civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson encouraged College of Charleston students to become more involved with the political system.
Jackson spoke today to about 100 people attending the event sponsored by the College of Charleston Political Science Club. He urged the crowd to make voting a top priority.
“ We hold the power to make our nation a better nation for everyone,” said Jackson.
Jackson is hoping to register 100,000 new voters in South Carolina.
Following the address, he handed out voter registration forms to about two dozen unregistered voters attending the event.
Jackson, a native of Greenville, S.C., is the founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, a multi-racial, multi-issue progressive international organization fighting for social change.
