The end of the college semester means finals, that last hurdle to jump before winter break can officially begin. Term papers and tests might not count as fun for most people, but at least College of Charleston students can combat exam-induced anxiety with some amusing activities designed to relax their brain and reduce their blood pressure. As part of Cougar Countdown, students are invited to participate in yoga and Zumba classes, take coffee breaks, eat pancakes served by College administrators and, perhaps most importantly, play with puppies. All these campus events are opportunities to let loose a little before the big exam and enable best results at the end of the semester.
As Lindy Coleman, the College’s associate director of the Center for Student Learning explains:
“Students tend to think they need to study ‘24/7’ during Exam Week, and this causes them to be sleep-deprived and full of caffeine — not the best state for focus and concentration during a challenging exam! The best plan is for students to balance good sleep, eating, and exercise habits with reasonable chunks of study time. Cougar Countdown provides students with free, easily accessible activities to help them achieve this balance: snack breaks, exercise and yoga classes, visits from dogs and puppies (a huge stress reliever!), extra study spaces, and morning coffee — just to name a few.”
The full schedule listed below demonstrates a wide variety of activities to suit the College’s diverse student body.
