Elect Her is a learning opportunity coming to the College of Charleston for female college students interested in careers in politics. The program will take place on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the College’s Stern Center Ballroom, located on the fourth floor of the Stern Center at 71 George St.
The program will encourage young women to run for student government as well as future political offices in an effort to expand the pipeline of women candidates and to diminish the longstanding political leadership gender gap.
It also provides a forum for students to learn skills pertinent to the political field. Participants will practice hands-on campaign skills, hear from and network with inspiring speakers, including S.C. State Sen. Mia McLeod and former Charleston mayoral candidate Ginny Deerin, and discuss research on women in government.
A collaboration between the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the nonprofit organization Running Start, the event will provide breakfast and lunch for attendees. RSVP by visiting the event’s Google Forms page.
