To kick off the 2016-17 academic year, College of Charleston President Glenn F. McConnell ’69 celebrated the first day of classes by posing for selfies and photos with students on Cougar Mall.

“I love interacting with our students, especially on the first day of classes,” McConnell said. “The students bring a palpable energy to our campus and are filled with excitement as they embark upon life-changing opportunities. It’s important to me to mingle with our students so they know I’m here for them, and so are our faculty and staff.”

Meanwhile, new and returning students used the first day of classes to document their goals. Writing on a huge chalkboard setup near the Sottile House, hundreds of students stopped by to write down what they hope to accomplish before graduating from the College.
