College of Charleston students and community members will gather at 5 Liberty St. in Charleston at noon on Nov. 20, 2016, to prepare educational care packages for children in villages across rural Cameroon, a country in the western region of Central Africa.
The student-driven initiative called Kick it Forward seeks to provide school supplies to children who would otherwise have to forgo their education due to lack of school supplies.
The month-long campaign – with help from partners such as Possibilities Without Borders, the Porter Gaud School, and Boy Scouts of America’s Coastal Carolina Council — encouraged individuals and organizations to donate. The drive resulted in enough supplies to prepare 3,000 school care packages.
Student organizers will travel to Cameroon in the spring of 2017 to personally deliver the supplies.
“I am so thrilled to attend a college that understands the importance of giving back,” says College of Charleston senior Bailey Morrison. “This program allows us to experience a new culture while changing the lives of thousands of children through education.”
