Patrick Harwood, an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Communication, has published a new book of photography featuring hundreds of outdoor images, including more than 85 different species of birds.

Nature-ly Fun! Bird Photography From A to Z is available at the College of Charleston Bookstore.

“This is a tribute book to The Great Outdoors,” says Harwood, noting that he photographed many of the featured birds in the Lowcountry. “I use the 26 letters of the alphabet to extol the fun, healthy, wholesome and educational hobby of bird and nature photography.”

Harwood will sign copies of the book from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2016, at Wild Birds Unlimited in Mt. Pleasant; from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 4, 2016, at Mr. K’s Books in North Charleston; and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2016, at Barnes & Noble in North Charleston, 7620 Rivers Ave.

A communication instructor with a background in broadcast journalism and public relations, Harwood says he got into bird photography in 2008. He has previously written two books about Charleston’s Magnolia Cemetery. He has also photographed some 40 different types of birds at the College’s Dixie Plantation, which he compiled for a mural titled Birds of Dixie Plantation.
