The College of Charleston’s Model United Nations Team won three awards at the Southern Regional Model United Nations (SRMUN) competition held recently in Atlanta.
Students Mary Boyd Barefoot, Amelia Davenport, Jacob Docalavich, Morgan Godfrey, Natalia Hardee, Ali Kapasi, Olivia Liska, Cory Nelson, Preston Pyatt, Jonathan Solomon and Katherine Williams were recognized with the following team honors:
- Honorable Delegation – Turkey
- Honorable Delegation – Ukraine
- Outstanding Position Paper – Ukraine
International studies and political science professor Max Kovalov prepared the students for the competition and traveled with them to Atlanta.
The Southern Regional Model United Nations conference was inaugurated in 1990 in Greenville, South Carolina, with the intention of being an exemplary learning experience for undergraduate college students interested in pursuing issues of international concern, according to the organization’s website. The conference site was moved to Atlanta in 1991.
