Students and others looking to get into the music industry will have the chance to pick the brains of some top industry players as part of the College’s IN THE MIX program this spring.
Kicking off Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, the first topic of the program’s Spring 2017 series will take a look at songwriting. Guest speakers include Danielle Howle, writer and singer of the EP “Pot Of Water”; Phillip Lammonds, who has written songs for Darius Rucker, Lee Brice, Edwin McCain, Blake Shelton, Craig Morgan, Josh Turner and Hootie & the Blowfish; and Tyler Reeve, whose catalogue includes several album cuts and singles, such as Love & Theft’s critically acclaimed single, “Whiskey On My Breath,” Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know,” and Luke Combs’ “I Got Away With You.”
Speakers will discuss songwriting as a career, both in terms of creativity and the business aspects of the industry.
The discussion is set for 6:30 p.m. in room 309 of the Simons Center for the Arts.
Additional IN THE MIX sessions are planned for March 20 and April 24. Topics will be announced. All sessions will be free and open to students and the public.
Since spring 2014, IN THE MIX has connected over 600 students, musicians, and alumni to industry professionals and moguls. Previous sessions have featured guest speakers Darius Rucker of Hootie & the Blowfish and Cary Ann Hearst of Shovels & Rope.
