The College of Charleston confirms that it will resume its normal class schedule on Thursday, September 14, 2017, and is continuing its phased recovery plan for Tuesday and Wednesday.

For Faculty and Staff
WEDNESDAY MORNING (September 13, 2017) – PHASE TWO of the RECOVERY PLAN: Based on Tuesday’s facilities assessments, the College will initiate Phase Two on Wednesday morning. Division heads will communicate with their areas to establish the make-up of Team Two.

Unless faculty and staff members are contacted by their division head regarding PHASE TWO, they are not to report to campus before Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.

Campus offices will fully re-open at 1:00 p.m. as part of PHASE THREE.

Members of Team Two will likely include (but are not necessarily limited to) the following:

  • Academic leadership – deans, chairs and registrar
  • IT management
  • Insurance services
  • Residence Hall staff
  • Food service staff
  • Procurement
  • Physical Plant shops
  • Grounds Crew
  • Financial services
  • Crisis communications team

WEDNESDAY, 12:00 p.m. – PHASE THREE and PHASE FOUR: In Phase Three and Phase Four, all faculty and staff will report to work after noon on Wednesday, September 13.

THURSDAY MORNING (September 14, 2017): Classes resume, and the College returns to its normal operating schedule.

IMPORTANT: The College prioritizes the safety of its campus members. Please use your best judgment in returning to campus this week. Per the president’s and provost’s direction, faculty and campus managers are to be flexible regarding attendance for those traveling from areas where there are adverse conditions or for those who have difficulties in transportation (flight/train reservations). Please contact your direct supervisor if you have any problems returning to campus.

For Students
WEDNESDAY – AFTER 2:00 p.m. (September 13, 2017): Residential students may return to campus and check into their residence halls.

PLEASE NOTE: Even on Wednesday afternoon, a few residential historic houses and other campus facilities may still have minor water intrusion and/or power outages. Residence Life staff will relocate any affected students into temporary housing on campus while these facilities are addressed and repaired.

THURSDAY (September 14, 2017): Classes resume and the College returns to its normal operating schedule. The Provost’s Office will make an announcement about the academic calendar adjustments and make-up days.

PLEASE NOTE: On Thursday and Friday, a few classrooms may still have minor water intrusion and/or power outages. Faculty members will notify students of any temporary classroom location changes.
