The College of Charleston will be closed on Thursday, January 4, 2018, due to severe winter weather conditions and the announced closure of Charleston County government services.

Only faculty and staff members identified as essential personnel (primarily those in the areas of residence life, food services, public safety and physical plant) should report to the downtown campus on Thursday, January 4.

Please note the following:

  • Residence halls are open. However, students can move in at whatever time on Thursday or Friday – when they feel they can get to campus safely.
  • Food service will be limited on Thursday. However, Liberty Street Fresh Foods Company (on the corner of St. Philip and Liberty streets) will be open between 9:00 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday. Note: this dining facility is open Wednesday (from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.).
  • At this time, orientation sessions are still scheduled for Friday. However, new students and families registered for orientation should monitor their emails for updates regarding the modified schedules.

College officials will continue to monitor weather conditions and will update the campus community via CougarAlert on Thursday afternoon regarding any changes to Friday’s operations and work schedule. Please check local media and National Weather Service bulletins for the latest updates.
