Board of Trustees Chair David Hay sent the following message to the campus community on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018.

Dear Campus Community,

By now, you have likely read or heard that President Glenn McConnell has announced his intentions to retire following the current spring semester.

As trustees, we see firsthand Glenn’s dedication to this institution, and it saddens all of us that his tenure at his alma mater is coming to a close. Since his arrival in July 2014, President McConnell has inspired us with his vision, his humor, as well as his transparency.

In my time working side by side with President McConnell, I was always impressed by his commitment to leading with a sense of honor and integrity. Those two words – honor and integrity – are the hallmarks of his administration. And his love for this institution is real and infectious, and that passion will be hard to replicate.

However, as President McConnell noted in his message to campus this morning, in the life of a university, presidents change but the institution’s obligations are ever-present and unending. For that reason, the Board of Trustees will work tirelessly to find the right person to lead our university and to carry forward our high standards.

Tomorrow, the Board of Trustees will meet to discuss next steps. After consultation of the full board, we will announce a transition plan to the campus community.

While goodbyes such as this are always difficult, this moment is also an opportunity to celebrate the many achievements of President McConnell. Through hard work and dedication, he has strengthened the College – in mind, body and spirit – and it is our job to build on his legacy of success.

For more information about President McConnell’s retirement, please see the press release on The College Today.

Sincerely,

David
