The College of Charleston Libraries has launched its latest digital resource, Access World News Research Collection.

Now available to the College community, the database incorporates current and archived information from more than 10,000 sources. These newswires, videos, broadcast transcripts, journals, periodicals, and more are drawn from media outlets across the United States and around the world.

For researchers exploring South Carolina topics, Access News features 50-plus sources from the Palmetto State alone – from the Aiken Standard to the Waccamaw Times. Current issues of The Post and Courier and The State are also now available through Access News.

The database’s “Special Reports” feature provides an historical and international perspective on global topics of current interest. Updated daily, these reports cull statistics, maps, images, and more from sources spanning the Azerbaijan News Gazette to World Radio Switzerland.

“Access World News provides the College community a one-stop-shop for a myriad of research needs,” said Heather Gilbert, Associate Dean of Collection and Content Services. “We are extremely happy to be able to finally bring this resource to the College.”

Access World News joins more than 330 databases available to the College community, representing the Libraries’ commitment to providing its patrons with the latest print and digital resources.

“Empowering researchers with the tools to engage diverse sources of information is a cornerstone of the Libraries’ role as a hub of dynamic discovery for our community,” said John White, Dean of the Libraries. “The breadth and depth of Access World News underscores our fundamental focus on serving all researchers, whether they are exploring life in the Lowcountry or Lithuania.”

Access World News– along with the Libraries’ complete range of digital resources – is available to all College of Charleston students, faculty, and staff at library.cofc.edu. Access for College alumni and members of the public is among a host of a benefits available through membership in the Friends of the Library.
