As part of the College of Charleston’s celebration of Black History Month, the Office of Student Life and Office of Multicultural Student Programs and Services will host the authors of the book We Are Charleston, which takes a closer look at the shooting of nine worshipers at Emanuel A.M.E. Church.
Local journalist Herb Frazier, history professor Bernard Powers, and South Carolina Poet Laureate Marjory Wentworth, who co-authored the book, will speak on Feb. 23, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. in the Stern Student Center Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public.
We are Charleston sheds light on the tragedy surrounding the Charleston shootings at Emanuel A.M.E. Church in June 2015. The book also delves into the history of the A.M.E. church and the history of slavery and racism in Charleston.
The event is part of the College of Charleston Conversations on Race and Hope.
