Early March means spring flowers and perfect weather on the College of Charleston campus. But, it also means Accepted Student Weekend – one of the College’s most important events of the year.

Each year, more than 1,000 prospective students and their families descend on downtown Charleston for Accepted Student Weekend (March 9-10, 2018). They come from all across the Palmetto State and all around the U.S. to get a better sense of the College, its faculty, programs and facilities. That’s approximately 3,000 visitors on campus.

Now in its 10th year, Accepted Student Weekend (ASW) is an exceptional opportunity for would-be students to sample campus life. They’ll be able to take campus tours, visit residence halls and meet professors and current undergraduates. The objective, say ASW’s organizers, is to offer these students an unfiltered view of what life at the College would be like for them.

Associate Director of Visitor Services for admissions Dakota Flynn ’13 and Associate Director of Recruitment Events Devan Thompson ’10 are the duo that’s co-organizing this big event. They both say the goal is to expose prospective students and their families to everything the College has to offer.

“In true Charleston fashion,” says Flynn, “ASW isn’t just about celebrating accepted students – although that’s a big part of it – it’s also about providing those students and their families the opportunity to get a real feel for the experience that only the College of Charleston offers.

“We’re well aware that choosing which college to attend is often a family decision,” he continues. “So, from financial aid to local atmosphere, there’s a lot for these families to consider. We encourage them to keep in mind the total fit, and there’s no better way to get a sense of that than by attending ASW.”

ASW takes place Friday, March 9 through Saturday, March 10, 2018. The campus will be awash with visitors attending events such as the majors and minors fair, financial aid information sessions, diversity discussions and more. It all culminates each afternoon with a block party on George Street in the heart of campus.
