March Matchness has exceeded expectations, rallying alumni, parents and friends of the College of Charleston in a record-breaking giving campaign.
On the heels of the Men’s Basketball Team’s trip to the NCAA Tournament, the fundraising campaign has already succeeded in meeting its first matching gift challenge. The $10,000 challenge was initiated by alumnus Johnnie Baxley ’92 and Michelle Baxley, proud CofC parents. What’s more, Cougar spirit remains strong thanks to the emergence of another matching challenge gift. CofC parents Chris and Terri Walker now ask alumni and parents to donate another $20,000 by midnight on March 31, 2018. If the goal is met, the Walkers will match those donations dollar for dollar.
“This year, the College of Charleston basketball team time after time demonstrated the collective, can-do force of Cougar spirit,” says Laurie Soenen, the College’s director of Annual Giving Programs. “Let’s see that spirit and raise it – by raising funds to continue to uplift the College of Charleston!”
An initiative of the Annual Giving Office, the March Matchness campaign plays off the College’s celebrated Men’s Basketball Team in order to increase support for the College and its future. To do so, Cougar Nation is asked to make a donation to either the College of Charleston Fund or the Parents’ Fund. Together, the two funds provide resources for student scholarships and student programming activities, as well as faculty and alumni networking opportunities.
