Caribbean-American culture is a rich diaspora that inspires everything from music to art to faith.

Charleston’s annual celebration of Caribbean culture and heritage – Carifest – kicks off today, Thursday, June 21, 2018, with a reception and keynote lecture at the College of Charleston’s North Campus. The country of focus in this year’s Carifest is Cuba.

The opening reception begins at 6 p.m., followed a symposium lecture “Salsipuedes: The Caribbean as Modernity Trap” by curator and art critic Elvis Fuentes. The event is free and open to the public. For additional information visit the Carifest website.
